Option A - An outback wilderness station
Fly from Melbourne to Pungalina cattle station, located on the Calvert
River on the Queensland/Northern Territory border just south of the gulf.
This is an 8 hour flight and normally spans 1 & 1/2 days to get there.
Pungalina is a remote wilderness 500,000 acre station. It has a camp for a
maximum of 8 people , permanent tents right next to a flowing spring. This
wilderness experience includes fishing, canoeing, walking, bird watching and
swimming. There are many great swimming holes to visit, plentiful barramundi
and wild life and some amazing limestone caves to explore. Spend 4 or 5 days
here then visit Sweers Island in the gulf for a days fishing, then 1 night
at the famous Lawn Hill gorge before returning home.

Option B - Mount Borradaile (Davidson's Safari Camp Arnhem Land)
Spend two days travelling across Australia by aircraft, through the
centre, to Max Davidson's Arnhem Land Safari Camp at Mt Borradaile. This is
just east of Darwin and is on the magnificent flood plains where there is
abundant bird / animal life, barramundi fishing and above all some of
Australia's greatest Aboriginal art sites. Maybe spend 3 - 4 days here and
then take two days to travel back home. The home leg might go via Sweers
Island in the gulf, Avington station and Innamincka on the Cooper Creek
before arriving back at Essendon in Melbourne.
See Davidson's web site for more details:

On this holiday to Australia's Gulf of Carpentaria spend 2, 3 or 4 days
on Sweers Island. On the way spend a night at Innamincka on the Coopers
Creek. The fishing at Sweers is isolated and off the beach or boat depending
on your preference. On the way home stay at Adels Grove for a night of
camping and a day of swimming and canoeing the Lawn Hill gorge then onto
Avington Station for a great outback homestead meal and 4 wd bike riding.
Maybe even a game of golf or just a quiet fish on the Barcoo before flying

exist. A few days here then have an aboriginal guided tour of the rock sites
